University of Georgia’s Rakesh K. Singh Honored with IFT’s Distinguished Career Award

The Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) is pleased to announce that Rakesh K. Singh, PhD, Professor at University of Georgia, has been awarded IFT’s Distinguished Career Award in honor of Carl R. Fellows, which honors an IFT member who has brought distinguished recognition to the science of food community through a career of exemplary contributions to academia, industry, or government.

CHICAGO – June 18, 2024 – The Institute of Food Technologists (IFT), a nonprofit scientific organization committed to advancing the science of food and its application across the global food system, is pleased to announce that Rakesh K. Singh, PhD, Professor at University of Georgia, has been awarded IFT’s Distinguished Career Award in honor of Carl R. Fellows, which honors an IFT member who has brought distinguished recognition to the science of food community through a career of exemplary contributions to academia, industry, or government.

To be nominated for this award, which is presented in partnership with Phi Tau Sigma, individuals must have been employed in the science of food community for at least 15 years.

Singh will be honored at the Awards Ceremony & Reception at IFT FIRST: Annual Event and Expo, which is being held July 14-17, 2024, at McCormick Place in Chicago.

Singh joined the University of Georgia in 2001, where he serves as a Professor of Food Science & Technology. He previously served as the Department Head of Food Science and Technology until 2020. His research focuses on value-added processing using emerging technologies. Previously, he taught at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, as well as at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Singh has received many awards throughout his career, including IFT’s Elizabeth Fleming Stier Award, which honors an individual who has demonstrated the pursuit of humanitarian ideals, and the International Congress on Engineering and Food’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

Singh received his undergraduate degree from G. B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology in Pantnagar, Uttarakhand, India, and his master’s degree from the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, before earning his PhD in Agricultural Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is a member of IFT’s South Eastern Section and resides in Athens, Georgia.
