NYIFT celebrates Zwicker’s retirement
Members of the IFT New York section and other food industry professionals in April celebrated the recent retirement of long-time IFT member and industry veteran Al Zwicker at the section’s dinner meeting.

Zwicker recently retired from his recruiting business, Zwicker Associates, which he founded in 1979. Prior to that, he had worked in the chemical and flavor sales business for more than 25 years.

A member of IFT since 1963, Zwicker was also quite active in the IFT New York section, serving as chair of the New York section, Arrangements Committee, and Employment Committee. In addition to his leadership positions on the section’s committees, he participated as a member on several more, including the Section Nominations Committee, Awards Committee, and Golf/Tennis Committee. He also served as Councilor. Years ago, the New York section recognized his dedication to the section by giving him the Distinguished Service Award.

In retirement, Zwicker plans to enjoy his many interests, and, as he wrote to his clients, “sit back and smell the roses.”

Short course addresses nutrition
The Nutrition for the Food Scientist short course, scheduled on July 16–17, 2010, at the Hilton Chicago, will explore the development of food products for their nutrient profile vs product development for flavor and functionality alone. This is one of 10 IFT Pre-Annual Meeting short courses held before the IFT Annual Meeting & Food Expo, July 17–20.

Product developers, regulators, and marketing professionals will learn how to identify opportunities to work together with nutrition professionals to develop healthful products by applying sound nutrition and food science principles. Join several presenters including Kantha Shelke, Principal, Corvus Blue LLC, and Wendy Reinhardt Kapsak, Director, Health and Wellness, International Food Information Council, for a lively discussion about how you, as a food scientist, can more effectively navigate nutrition concerns and better integrate nutritional sciences within your product development activities.
