Opportunities to Grow Careers in Food Science
IFT encourages, promotes, and rewards the excellence of students pursuing food science careers by providing scholarships, grants, awards, and internships that help them reach their goals. Learn more about the available opportunities below.
Scholarship Recipient Testimonials
IFT scholarships enrich students' lives by making it possible to focus on their studies and extend their experience beyond the classroom with internships or travel scholarships to the IFT Annual Event & Food Expo. Meet some of the students who are already reaping the benefits of support from IFT.
"It’s very important to get a lot of internship experience, whether it’s research-based or in the industry. It gives you a broader perspective of working in the lab or on the floor of a product plant, and you can apply what you learned in the classroom. Life experience is one of the best ways to learn."
“To be able to attend Purdue for food science, I needed the help from scholarships because I’m paying for my own education. This scholarship means I can continue exploring my interest in food science and continue learning and doing what I actually want to do.”
“The scholarship helped me a great deal because as an international student, I have to pay full tuition. This scholarship from Feeding Tomorrow helped me have peace of mind, while I did my internship.”

Volunteer with IFT’s Feeding Tomorrow Fund
Our volunteers are our core. Meet our generous volunteers who give their time & talents to help further our mission.
Discover how you can help support our mission and contribute your time and knowledge toward food and nutrition solutions, in particular for those at the bottom of the economic pyramid.
“The highlight of volunteering was getting to share the knowledge I acquired over the course of my career with people who could use it to build their food safety programs. There are altruistic reasons for volunteering, but there are also things you can gain from it: insights, knowledge about other cultures, and a nice ego boost.”
“Participating in a Volunteer Globally opportunity, like the one I did in the country of Georgia, is an excellent way to broaden your perspective, see the world through a different lens, learn to appreciate what you have, experience tolerance, and grow as an individual.”
Volunteer Globally
As a member of the science of food community, you have unique talents and skills that can benefit the global food system—and IFT's Feeding Tomorrow Fund wants to help you leverage them for good. Through our partnership with Partners in Food Solutions, we're bringing together the collective knowledge of our community to pursue food and nutrition solutions for communities in need. Partners in Food Solutions, an independent nonprofit organization, is working to strengthen food security, improve nutrition and increase economic development across Africa by expanding and increasing the competitiveness of the food processing sector. They link corporate volunteers from their consortium of world-class food companies with promising entrepreneurs in twelve African countries. Volunteering is simple and typically requires about an hour per week on the phone or online with entrepreneurs and managing directors of small food companies in Africa. Visit Partners in Food Solution's website to learn more. Note: When applying, select "Not affiliated with one of the above" for PFS Partner Affiliation and "IFT" for Referral Source.
