What do we mean when we use the words diversity, equity, inclusion, & belonging?
Diversity
Diversity refers to the existence of varied perspectives and experiences among individuals within a group, organization, or society.
Inclusion
The act of establishing systems—which include policies, practices, and procedures—to ensure equitable access to opportunities and resources for everyone. Inclusion creates the infrastructure to leverage the collective strength we all bring.
Equity
The guaranteed fair treatment, access, opportunity, and advancement for all.
Belonging
The sense of being valued, recognized, respected, and connected within a group, organization, or society.
