IFT offers webcast on hiring & job trends
Learn about the current hiring trends in the food science job market during the Institute of Food Technologists’ “Current Food Industry Hiring Trends for Students and Professionals” webcast. Current students will be advised on how to best prepare for the job search after graduation, and all attendees will gain useful information on how the 2011 IFT Annual Meeting and Food Expo® offers employment assistance through its Career Fair and networking opportunities.

In addition to this, the webcast will discuss what hiring managers are looking for in potential candidates, what information should be included on resumes, how to best prepare for interviews, and what students can do while they are still enrolled in school to help them improve their chances of finding a job after graduation.

Vlahos accepts new position
Anne Vlahos has joined The Understanding & Insight Group as Chief Engagement Officer. She most recently was Vice President Savory Ingredients, North America for DSM Food Specialties, where she managed the sales and applications team for key national and global accounts. During her 25-year-career, Vlahos has worked for Red Arrow Products, Griffith Laboratories, Pfizer, FMC Corp., and Unilever. She is a Member of IFT.

OSU employs DeWitt
Oregon State University has hired Christina DeWitt as head of its seafood research center in Astoria. Her responsibilities include overseeing the budget and staff, building community relationships, identifying issues of concern to the seafood industry, and conducting research that addresses these topics. DeWitt earned a master’s degree and Ph.D. degree from Oregon State University and most recently was a professor in the animal science department at Oklahoma State University. She is a Professional Member of IFT.

Lasater joins MGP Ingredients
MGP Ingredients has appointed Mike Lasater as National Sales Director. He has almost 20 years of experience in food ingredient sales, including eight years with MGP Ingredients where he began his career in 1992. He returns to the company after working in sales for National Starch and Chemical Co. and Gregg and Associates, a food ingredients brokerage business. He is a Member of IFT.

Borresen wins award
Torger Borresen has won the West European Fish Technologists Association Award, which recognizes outstanding contributions to seafood science and technology. He is a professor at Danish Technical University Food in Lyngby, Denmark and is a Professional Member of IFT.

Comax hires Cohen
Jake Cohen has joined Comax Flavors as Sales Associate. He is responsible for new business development, market research, account management, and account service, and is a Member of IFT.

Borra brings expertise to FMI
The Food Marketing Institute has hired Susan T. Borra as Senior Vice President of Communications. She serves as a spokesperson for FMI and manages media outreach in support of the organization’s public affairs issues, programs, products, services, and events.

Borra, who has more than 30 years of experience, most recently worked at Edelman public relations where she was Executive Vice President and Managing Director of Nutrition, Food, and Wellness. A Registered Dietitian, she served as president of the American Dietetic Association (2001–2002) and as chairman of the ADA Foundation (1999–2000). She is a Member of IFT.
